Research methods "in-focus" in December

A unique new book on research methods, co-edited by The Honors College Director, Dr Graeme Harper, has been scheduled for worldwide publication in early December.

"Research Methods in Creative Writing", which Dr Harper co-edited with Dr Jeri Kroll, Dean of Graduate Research at Flinders University in Australia, will be published be published by Palgrave-Macmillan publishers, and features key contributions from scholars in the USA, UK, Australia and South Africa.

Formerly a visiting Research Professor at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and a College Director of Research at Bangor University in the UK, Dr Harper highlights the importance of research in the context of this new book.

"I've been pleased to work with Dr Kroll on this book. We have a mutual interest in research development for undergraduates and graduates, and this book brings together some key international scholars working on research in the field of creative writing. Students in The Honors College at Oakland University work on research in all fields, and they are making a national and international impact with their work!"

Dr Harper noted: "Recently we have had students of The Honors College presenting research in medicine, cell biology, history, literature, engineering, creative writing, music and dance, political science, and in business. Just to name a few areas!"

International researchers from around the university have recently been talking to Honors College students about their research plans, working with small groups as part of their HC 390 thesis-preparation class.  This unique collaboration has already begun too create some world-beating projects!

Winter-Summer 2012 saw students from Oakland presenting their research at the National Conference on Undergraduate Research, while other students undertook international research internships, study abroad research projects and local research internships in a wide variety of disciplines.
