Comic book artist to present ideas, vision at Oakland

Sousanis, an artist and academic, will present his work in comic books.
The world of fantasy and comics will open up to Oakland University students, faculty and staff this fall, with an event featuring an up and coming comic artist.
The event “Creative & Critical Minds” featuring Nick Sousanis and his work on comic books is presented by the College of Arts and Sciences and will begin at noon on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Oakland Center Oakland Room.
Originally from Detroit, Sousanis now lives in New York. He is the co-founder of the arts and cultural web-magazine for the Detroiter, as well as the founding director for the University of Michigan’s work-Detroit gallery, and is a biographer of legendary Detroit artist, Charles McGee.
Sousanis is currently working on writing and drawing his doctoral dissertation at Teachers College, Colombia University – entirely in comic book form. His comic book dissertation is the first of its kind.
Those interested in a contemporary or classic understanding of comics or in the interaction of verbal and visual modes of communication should attend the presentation. The event is free and open to the public.
