Anthony Gallina - Spotlight on OU

2013 AUFD Spotlight on OU Questionnaire

Anthony Gallina
Team Leader — Admissions & Admissions Orientation HRS Adm Org

If you could have a super power what would you choose? Why?

The one super power that I would love to have is the gift of flying. This power could allow me to travel around the world and experience amazing things that are going on each day! I wouldn’t need to slow down time; flying could help make life a little easier and more efficient each day! Cheaper than Gasoline!

What is your favorite children’s story?

A story that has forever stayed close to me when I was a child and still today is Dr. Seuss’ “Oh The Places You Will Go”. A motivational story for people of all ages that reminds us that no matter which road we choose a new adventure is just around the corner!

What is the kindest act you’ve ever seen done (by you or someone else)?

The best experience of an act of kindness that I have witnessed recently was on OU’s campus.  While walking to a meeting I witnessed a student whom was actually running to class that they were late for. While running through the OC they noticed a lost student up ahead. As they approached the student they stopped to take time to help the lost student find their way. Seeing this type of generosity in our young society gives me hope that the world is still filled with great people. It’s a terrific representation of how even when life gets hectic, we should never overlook someone in need.

What is your favorite part of your day?

The best part of my day is when I first arrive to OU each morning with the motivation and drive to service Oakland University in a way that helps grow the institution that has given so much to me. As a student I had a rich support group of faculty, staff, and students who enriched my time as a student. The opportunity to have that effect on a current or future student is a feeling that I cherish each day!

What is your philanthropic passion?

My true passion is the ability to make a difference in just one person’s life each day! The best part of this passion is that I have the ability to do this in many different ways. A simple smile. Taking time to help someone in need. These acts of kindness can truly create a ripple in our society. I truly believe that if you “pay it forward”, it will one day either come back to help you or go on to help others! Try it! It works!

What do you feel is the best part of the All-University Fund Drive?

The best part of participating in the All-University Fund Drive is the opportunity to directly affect the future growth of Oakland University. Being a part of something special at OU is truly what creates passion for Oakland University that lives in each of us forever! No matter the size of the contribution, each layer of support helps build a foundation so that you yourself can leave a legacy at Oakland University! Being a Golden Grizzly has never felt so rewarding!

Over the years at Oakland I have grown to understand the significance of this initiative and how it can help the growth and future opportunity of the university. My participation in the All University Fund Drive is great way to give back to a place that has given so much to me while also connecting me to the future of Oakland University through its development and growth! It's just one more way to show my Grizzly passion for OU!
