Oakland University’s Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society was recently recognized with the 2011-2012 Best Chapter Award by the national office for the second year in a row.

This prestigious national award recognizes local chapters who are active in their departments and universities and who exhibit high levels of energy and creativity to further develop their honor society.

“This prestigious award acknowledges that the honorary can meet and exceed its annual objectives,” said PSA advisor Dr. Terri Towner. “Winning this award a second time tells the membership that they have built on successes, as well as overcome any failures from the previous year.”

In addition, Pi Sigma Alpha students are also actively involved in the community, participating in events such as Climb for Air, Greening of Detroit, OUCARES family fun day and others.

Last year the Nu Omega Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha either sponsored or co-sponsored more than 20 events while also initiating 23 new members.

The Nu Omega chapter has been motivated to continue to build on its success this year. The membership is looking forward to setting higher goals, recruiting new members, planning more campus events and reaching out to the community.

“Presently, our membership is seeking to bring the Pi Sigma Alpha Undergraduate Journal of Politics to Oakland University,” Dr. Towner said. “Housing the journal at OU would give students the opportunity to conduct, present, and publish their original research.”

Pi Sigma Alpha is always interested in recruiting new political science and political administration majors and minors. For more information, contact Dr. Towner at towner@oakland.edu or view the website.

OU’s Pi Sigma Alpha political science honor society was recently named the 2011-2012 Best Chapter Award by the national office for the second year in a row.
