On
Thursday, Sept. 6, Development, Alumni and Community Engagement will
host the Community Business Fair from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Oakland
Center Fireside Lounge, main hallway and Gold Rooms. The Gender and
Sexuality Center will host an open house from noon – 4 p.m. in Oakland
Center Room 49D. The evening will spotlight OUSC’s annual Rock4Rights
from 7-10 p.m. in the Oakland Center Gold Rooms.
The action continues on Friday, Sept. 7, with the “Celebrate the 28
Campaign,” sponsored by CSA and Orientation and New Student Programs. An
ice cream social featuring live music from local band Killer Flamingos,
this event will take place from 3-5 p.m. in the Oakland Center Pioneer
Food Court and recognizes the achievements of sophomores who
successfully completed 28 credits in their first academic year. A number
of other festivities are planned, including a welcome reception hosted
by the International Students and Scholars Office from 4-6 p.m. in the
Oakland Center Banquet Rooms.
The campus will also hold a 9-11 remembrance at 8:46 a.m. on Tuesday,
Sept. 11, outdoors between North and South Foundation Halls. The Grizz
Fest for Student and Greek Organizations will be held that day from
11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. outdoors between North and South Foundation Halls.
Other Welcome Week highlights include the CSA Volunteer Fair from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, in the Oakland Center Fireside
Lounge, main hallway, and Gold Rooms. Later that day, the 11th annual
Campus Recreation vs. University Housing Tailgate Party is planned from
6-8 p.m., followed by the Flag Football Challenge from 8-9:30 p.m. in
the Upper Fields.
The week will close on Friday, Sept. 14, with the SPB Comedy Night,
featuring Upright Citizens Brigade, an improvisational and sketch comedy
troupe that first gained fame in the early 1990s performing at
Chicago’s Improv Olympic theatre and later launched an eponymous
television series which aired on Comedy Central from 1998-2000. The
event will take place from 7-10 p.m. in the Oakland Center Banquet
Rooms.
