OU community reminded to be safe, report erratic behavior

As the fall 2012 semester begins at Oakland University, the campus community is reminded to take care with personal belongings and to keep an eye out for any odd or erratic behavior.

Students should keep an eye on their surroundings and secure their personal belongings. Oakland provides a safe campus environment that each member of the community can help by keeping car doors locked and by making sure cell phones, laptops, or purses are not left unattended.

The Oakland University Police Department has provided a list of safety tips at police.oakland.edu/safety.

Additionally, university officials have developed an online system to assist faculty, staff and students in reporting behavioral concerns and supporting the community. Whether in the classroom, residence halls or across campus, any member of the community should report behavior that seems inappropriate, threatening or alarming.

“The idea behind the Behavior Concern system is to help people by connecting those in need to the proper resources on campus,” said Glenn McIntosh, dean and assistant vice president for Student Affairs.

Those choosing to make a behavior report can choose to identify themselves or remain anonymous. Reports are sent to the Behavior Concerns Committee, who will gather additional info, make contact, and determine a proper course of action.
