GrizzOrgs connects students to activities, organizations, events

By Samantha Skovran, media relations assistant

Nearing its one year anniversary, GrizzOrgs, Oakland University’s network for student organizations, is home to 230 organizations and more than 5,000 students.

Launched in the fall of 2011 by the Center for Student Activities, GrizzOrgs is a forum that gives students and student organizations the opportunity to advertise group events, maintain easy contact with its members, create a website, and use features like the calendar, messaging, and forums.

“This site is like the ultimate ice cream sundae,” said Assistant Director of Leadership and Service-Learning Christopher Jenson. “It’s not just vanilla ice cream; we give you the hot fudge, sprinkles, and candy too.”

Individuals who are already using GrizzOrgs recognize that this multipurpose system has all the extra toppings. It not only connects to social media sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn, but also includes access to important documents, budget management, and organizational tools.

Throughout its first year, the system continued to grow. It now features campus organizations, departments, and coming this fall, club sports.

Students not involved in a student organization can also benefit by finding events and volunteer outings on the calendar. With easier access to organizations and finding specific events, students using GrizzOrgs have more opportunity to get involved with groups that interest them.

On GrizzOrgs, students and faculty can also to set up an ePortfolio, or online resume. With a personal profile, students can upload work experience, education, and important documents that can be shared as a resume on other sites.

“GrizzOrgs helps students and organizations get involved with better control, accountability, and knowledge than they had before,” said Jensen. “Even if you’re not involved with an organization, you’re at least involved in getting a job, this site has the tools to help.”
