Annual New Student Convocation set for Tuesday, Sept. 4

Oakland University will welcome new students and their families to attend the New Student Convocation at 3 p .m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, in the O’rena. 

This event benchmarks the beginning of students’ bright academic futures at the university. This official ceremony gives students the opportunity to see potential instructors and gain important information from various OU officials. 

The afternoon includes a formal procession of faculty in academic regalia, presentations from campus representatives and a reception for students and their families immediately following the ceremony. Business casual attire is recommended for this event.

Also set for Tuesday, Sept. 4, is Part II of new student orientation. The event will group incoming students into their chosen academic majors and departments and provide an opportunity to meet faculty and students who share their interests.

Beginning at 10:30 a.m., the event is filled with events including, a welcome picnic, academic open houses, an involvement fair, and will conclude with New Student Convocation that afternoon. 
 
Orientation Part II is required for all first-year students. Parents and transfer students are welcome to attend New Student Convocation.
