Governor appoints two new trustees to Oakland University's board

Governor Rick Snyder has appointed two trustees to the Oakland University board. Former board chair Dennis Pawley and newcomer Scott G. Kunselman will begin serving on Oakland's board immediately.

Pawley, an alumnus of the university, served for a total of 10 years on the Board of Trustees, including two years as chair and two years as vice chair. He was executive vice president of World Wide Manufacturing for the Chrysler Group of DaimlerChrysler and is the founder of the Pawley Institute of Lean Learning on Oakland's campus.

Pawley has been a frequent and generous donor to the university, with gifts including a $4 million contribution toward the construction of Carlotta and Dennis Pawley Hall. He and Carlotta live in Waterford. They have three grown children.

"Dennis Pawley's long service and commitment to Oakland University is truly a testament to his tireless dedication," said Michel Kramer, the new chair of Oakland's board. "As an alumnus, friend, donor and former board chair, he is uniquely positioned to bring a broad base of institutional knowledge and strategic thinking to our board."

Kunselman is senior vice president of purchasing and supplier quality for Chrysler Group, LLC. He joined the former Chrysler Corporation in 1985 as a product engineer. He holds BS, MS and MBA degrees from the University of Michigan. He and his wife, Denise, reside in White Lake.

"Scott will bring a new and exciting energy to the board's work," Kramer said. "His critical thinking skills and commitment to quality will stand Oakland in good stead."

Pawley and Kunselman will replace outgoing Oakland University trustees Henry Baskin, who served for 16 years, and Jacqueline Long, who served for 8 years.
