"Brick & Mortar" art exhibit to showcase Detroit and OU artists
Luxury behind closed doors is the focus of a new fine art exhibition on display at Meadow Brook Hall's Family Garage, entitled “Brick & Mortar.”
The exhibit offers a wide range of sculpture, photography and drawings created by Metro Detroit artists, including some Oakland University faculty members.
“All of the work will be quite diverse visually, but was made in conversation with Meadow Brook’s 2012 Architecture theme,” explained co-curator and artist Richard Haley.
The artwork blends notions of decadence, shelter and privacy, with a specific emphasis on Detroit and Michigan architecture. The group of artists is split between Michigan natives and recent transplants - offering a variety of perspectives on the subject.
The differentiating backgrounds of the exhibiting artists provide visitors with seven unique viewpoints to this regional phenomenon. The exhibiting artists are Corrie Bauldauf, Amy Feigley, Richard Haley, David Lambert, Julie Prokop, Chris Lee and Cody VanderKaay.
“Brick & Mortar” opens Wednesday, Aug. 15, and concludes with a closing reception on Thursday, Sept. 15. Visitors can view the exhibit as part of their tour of The Hall. Now through Sunday, Sept. 2, tours are offered daily at 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. After Labor Day, tours will run Monday through Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday at 11:30a.m., 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m.
