Two Oakland University-authorized charter schools have received high rankings from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy, suggesting they are among the top in the state of Michigan. Star International Academy in Dearborn Heights is rated as the number one high school in the state and Detroit's Universal Academy as number three, according to the Mackinac Center’s Michigan Public High School Context and Performance Report Card.
OU School of Education and Human Services Dean, Louis B. Gallien Jr. says, “While we have consistently stated that charter schools are not a panacea for public education, we do take our role in authorizing ten schools seriously and this data demonstrates that seriousness and hard work of the (Public School Academies) office, combined with the leadership of our diverse schools.”
Mrs. Nawal Hamadeh, President and CEO, of Hamadeh Educational Services - which operates both of the schools - reiterates that the success is a group effort, “…It’s teamwork of very dedicated and highly committed staff and stakeholders. We couldn’t have done it with them and without the support of our number one authorizer, Oakland University.”
