Charity and awareness are at the heart of the upcoming 2012 Rochester Rotary Charity Golf Outing, which will benefit the Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES).
Representatives from OUCARES will be on hand to generate awareness for the non-profit center, which is dedicated to improving the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Through academic, research and service programs, the center seeks to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community.
Also on hand will be actor, director and writer Joey Travolta. He will discuss his upcoming 7th annual Film Camp, where 50 campers – a combination of ASD students and their peers – will create and star in their own film. The OUCARES Film Camp, one of only six programs nationwide, promotes creativity in an inclusive setting.
The Rochester Rotary Charity Golf Outing is set for Monday, Aug. 13, at the R & S Sharf Golf Course, located on the campus of Oakland University. Interactive and printable campus maps are available at oakland.edu/map.
The day will begin at 11:30 a.m. with an open driving range and registration. The 1 p.m. shotgun start will send participants to the course for 18 holes of golf and a boxed lunch. Dinner is at 5:30 p.m. and will be followed with a meet and greet with Travolta. The evening will conclude with an awards presentation for the day's golfers.
Proceeds will benefit OUCARES and the Rochester Rotary Charities. For more information or to register for the golf outing, view the flyer or contact Rhonda at rotarygolfouting@gmail.com.
