OU Offers Staff Employees Certification Reimbursement

Did you know that Oakland University staff employees taking certification programs through Professional and Continuing Education (PACE) are eligible for coverage through University Human Resources?

Adding designations through certifications or certificates of achievement is a critical aspect of staying current in today's workforce.  OU is taking the lead for their employees by offering them the opportunity to enroll in programs offered through PACE.  Employees that pass certification courses are eligible for 100% reimbursement.  Employee dependents are eligible for 50% reimbursement.

Lori Crose, Associate Director of PACE, has been involved in workforce development for over 10 years.  She sees that certifications and short programs are increasingly important for keeping abreast of fast-paced workplace changes and are a cost effective way to remain competitive.  "The global nature of business today is vastly different than it was even 10 years ago and is creating an ultra-competitive environment.  In response, it is imperative that both business and the workforce are nimble and well-trained. For employees this means that keeping a current position or retraining for a new demand profession is going to be a lifelong endeavor. PACE hopes to be the place people can go to stay on top of their career game."

Tracey Zang, in University Human Resources, added, "The certification programs are a great way for employees to take advantage of their tuition benefits.  It is especially good for those who have already completed a longer degree program and are looking to continue to expand their knowledge on specific focused topics."

Employees can find out more about the Oakland University certification programs by visiting the PACE homepage, oakland.edu/PACE and clicking Certificates. Once on the PACE homepage, interested employees can start the process by choosing Forms in the left menu, then selecting OU Employees.

For additional questions about programs, write to oupace@oakland.edu or call the PACE office at 248-370-3177.  Questions about applying for benefits can be directed to Tracey Zang at zang@oakland.edu.
