New Huntington Ford scholarship targets Rochester area students

Huntington Ford of Rochester Hills has partnered with Oakland University to establish a scholarship for an incoming freshman from one of four Rochester area high schools –Adams, Stoney Creek, Rochester, or Avondale. 

The scholarship will support an OU student with a four-year renewable award to be applied toward the cost of tuition. In addition to good citizenship, candidates must demonstrate financial need, a passion for a particular subject matter or extracurricular activity and hold a minimum 3.30 GPA. 

The scholarship is renewable for an additional three years for a student who continues to demonstrate financial need, completes full-time credits during each fall and winter semester and maintains a minimum 3.30 GPA. 

“Scholarships are life-changing for students when it comes to covering the expense of university tuition,” said Eleanor Reynolds, assistant vice president and director of Undergraduate Admissions. “We thank Huntington Ford for their generosity and for paying it forward for an Oakland student.”

This year’s scholarship recipient is Jacqueline Yee. To qualify for the award, Yee submitted a letter of recommendation and a personal letter sharing academic and extracurricular interests. A graduate of Rochester High School, Yee was a member of the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, Key Club and cheer team. She also has contributed to her community through volunteer work at Rochester High School, McGregor Elementary School and Cambridge Nursing Home. She plans to pursue a career in the legal profession.
