Oakland University’s innovative Summer Student Campus Corps program recently launched its fourth year in business. The program has consistently earned positive reviews from participants and administrators as it seeks to place students in paid summer positions.
The summer corps program is designed to provide meaningful work experience for undergraduate students by creating temporary, on-campus jobs that build professional skills and work experience.
This summer, more than 70 students are already benefitting from the internship-style positions. Eligible students must be Michigan residents who will continue their undergraduate education at Oakland in the fall 2012 semester.
The program has become increasingly popular on campus and has consistently received a very positive response from administrators, professors and student participants, according to Cindy Hermsen, director of Financial Aid.
The corps' paid positions will run from Monday, April 30, through Sunday, August 26. Working up to 40 hours a week, students can earn up to $10 an hour, or a maximum of $6,800, over 17 weeks.
Assignments include a wide variety of projects, in the academic, administrative and auxiliary realms. Positions are available in campus departments such as biology, Kresgy Library, the School of Nursing, information technology, OU’s business incubator, accounting, financial aid, recreation and administrative offices.
These campus corps projects are outside the scope of routine positions traditionally offered by the hiring department.
