Last chance to view student art exhibition at OUAG

The Oakland University Art Gallery’s Azimuth 23 exhibition will soon be at an end, which signals the final chance to view the 2012 studio art major’s final thesis projects.

This event is the opportunity for graduating studio art majors to debut their work. This year, 23 students exhibit various forms of art, specializing in drawing, new media, painting or photography to complete their training at Oakland University.

Each piece exhibits certain qualities unique to the artist. Senior art student Kelly Guy completed her thesis as a series of dresses all made from recyclable items. Three mannequins stand in the gallery. One has a dress of clear plastic bottles, another is made of coffee filters, and the last is compiled of Target plastic bags.

Other artists join Guy with society-inspired art. Photographs by Braley Bullard show the cycle movement of Detroit, where individuals use bicycles as their preffered mode of transportation. Artist Claire Ondillo created sculptures made entirely of brand tags as a representation of “Brand Identity” within contemporary society.

Senior Thesis Projects: To the left are photographs by Braley Bullard, and to the right is a series by Amanda Fromm.

These examples are a small portion of what visitors can see at the Art Gallery. Senior students not only complete their thesis with this exhibit, but also display the knowledge and strengths they have aquired throughout their time at Oakland.

“Azimuth is a term for a point of trajectory and there was 23 of us. It’s like this was the starting point of our future,” said Guy.

To see these final projects, visit the Oakland University Art Gallery, open daily from 12-5 p.m., in 208 Wilson Hall. The final day to see their work is Sunday May 13. For more information, visit oakland.edu/ouag
