Saturday, May 5 – Brass Day
High school brass musicians are invited to attend a free day of warm-ups, instruction, sectionals and a concert led by OU's Dr. Kenneth Kroesche and guest conductor and soloist Helen Tyler, principal baritone horn player of the Fountain City Brass Band of Kansas City.
Saturday, May 19 and Sunday, May 20 – Jazz Workshop
Jazz musicians junior high through adult can work with renowned jazz violinist Regina Carter and the OU jazz faculty in a listening session, improvisation clinic, steel drum and combo sessions and an informal performance. A faculty concert also is included. The fee is $60 with a non-refundable $5 registration fee.
Saturday, June 2 – Guitar Workshop
OU guitar instructor Bret Hoag will show high school students how to pursue a college major or minor in music with a focus on guitar, as well as demonstrate classical guitar technique and exercises, basics of reading music and improvisation, and performance of classical, jazz and popular pieces. There is a $20 fee.
Sunday, June 17 to Friday, June 22 – First Annual OU Summer Band Intensive
High school musicians are invited to participate in technique classes, sectional rehearsals, full band rehearsals, and a concert performance led by OU faculty members, as well as DSO member and nationally recognized composer Dr. Brant Karrick. The fee is $375 for commuters and $495 for students who wish to stay on campus.
Monday, June 18 through Friday, June 29 – Summer Theatre Arts Workshop
Theatre faculty will offer participants 16 and older intensive sessions on costume design, stage management, mask making, unarmed stage combat, improvisational acting, dance styles for musical theatre, and auditioning. Each workshop is $80 except mask making, which at $90 includes all materials. Discounts are available for multiple enrollments.
Monday, June 25 through Friday, June 29 – Summer Strings Camp
OU's Music Preparatory Division invites string musicians aged 12-17 to a collegiate, yet intimate, chamber rehearsal setting OU faculty and instructors will lead daily theory intensives, orchestra rehearsals and workshops in world music and improvisation, as well as a culminating concert. The fee is $350 with a registration fee of $20.
Monday, July through Friday, July 20 – Great Lakes Dance Festival
Offered in partnership with the Eisenhower Dance Ensemble, the festival will offer experienced dancers 16 and older classes taught by EDE dancers and other guest artists. It will culminate with a showcase performance. The fee is $530 or $505 if registered by June 6. An optional on-campus residence plan is available for an extra fee.
Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 20 – Theory and Composition Workshop
Musicians aged 12-18 are invited to learn music theory concepts by creating compositions using the work of Mozart as a model. There is a fee of $200.
Monday July 23 through Friday July 27 – Creative Computer Workshop
Musicians aged 12-18 will use the university's music computer lab to create compositions that they can continue to work on at home. Instruction will include editing music, looping sounds and recording live music. There is a fee of $200.
