Electrical maintenance to shut down OU network, services May 2-3

Facilities Management will perform electrical systems maintenance that requires a campus-wide utility shutdown between from 3-7 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2012.

All faculty, staff and students are advised to take appropriate precautionary measures to protect sensitive electronic equipment during this period.

Additionally, due to this electrical systems work, the university network and systems environments will be unavailable between 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2, and 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 3. No campus electronic systems will be available during this period, including 911 emergency calls made from campus telephones to the Oakland University Police Department. Again, faculty, staff and students are advised to plan accordingly.

In the event of an emergency during the shutdown, OUPD will have two telephones in operation. OUPD can be reached by calling (248) 373-0117 and (248) 373-0315. Area public safety agencies have also been made aware of this issue and are prepared to transfer 911 cell phone calls they receive from persons on campus directly to the OUPD.

Finally, the Central Heating Plant will be shut down beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1, and continuing through 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 5, to make essential repairs. Heating, cooling and domestic hot water will be affected at various buildings on main campus.

Those with questions about these projects and their impacts should contact work control at (248) 370-2381 for additional information.
