Summer course to explore sexual orientation, gender identity and education

The first term of Summer 2012 will feature the course Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity & Education. The class is cross-listed with three graduate programs in the School of Education and Human Services – teacher development and educational studies, special education, and counseling, as well as the women and gender studies program in the College of Arts and Sciences. 

Additionally, the course fulfills both diversity and writing intensive requirements for undergraduates and is available for two to four credits. Students looking to earn three to four credits will be required to complete a service-learning component, in which they will contribute a minimum of eight hours of community service to a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender advocacy organization. These organizations include Affirmations, Equality Michigan, the Ruth Ellis Center and OU’s Gender and Sexuality Center and other organizations approved by the instructor, Dr. Timothy Larrabee.
