Detroit Music Award nominees include OU faculty, alumni
The list of nominees for this year’s Detroit Music Awards includes several individuals with ties to the Oakland University community.
OU faculty member Scott Gwinnell has been nominated for outstanding composer in two categories –jazz and classical music – and is also a nominee for Outstanding Jazz Instrumentalist and Outstanding Traditional Jazz Artist/Group.
In addition, faculty member Carl Cafagna was nominated for Outstanding Jazz Instrumentalist, Outstanding Traditional Jazz Artist/Group and Outstanding Modern Jazz Artist/Group.
Other OU-affiliated nominees are:
Lisa Agazzi (alumna and faculty member) – Outstanding Classical Vocalist
Gregory Cunningham (faculty member and director of the Warren Symphony Orchestra) – Outstanding Community Orchestra
Trish Shandor (alumna) – Outstanding Jazz Vocalist and Outstanding Classical Vocallist
The 2012 Detroit Music Awards will take place on Friday, April 27, at The Fillmore Detroit. Voting for the 2012 People's Choice Award runs through Monday, April 23, and the winner will be announced live at the awards ceremony.
