Renowned cognitive scientist to share groundbreaking insights at OU

Oakland University is pleased to welcome one of the world's leading cognitive scientists to present an overview of his groundbreaking work during the 2012 Varner Vitality Lecture.

Steven Pinker – named among Newsweek's "100 Americans for the Next Century" and TIME magazine's 100 Most Influential People in the World – seeks to answer some of the most challenging questions about the human mind.

Pinker's books include "The Blank Slate" and "How The Mind Works," both best sellers and both finalists for the Pulitzer Prize. His acclaimed language series includes "The Language Instinct," "Words and Rules" and "The Stuff of Thought: Language as a Window into Human Nature."

In addition to serving as Johnstone Professor of Psychology at Harvard University, Pinker has taught at Stanford University and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Varner Vitality Lecture, set for 7:30 p.m. on Monday, April 9, is free and open to the public. It will take place in the Oakland Center Banquet Rooms ion the campus of Oakland University.
