Upcoming Student Congress elections to determine 2012-13 leaders

Oakland University students can cast their ballots this March in the Student Congress elections and choose the president, vice president and legislators who will lead the student body during the 2012-2013 academic year.

The presidential ticket consists of two candidate pairs: Samantha Wolf and Robbie Williford, and James Sklar and Thomas Chen. 

Wolf currently serves as OUSC legislative affairs director, while Williford is president of the Residence Halls Association at Oakland. The Wolf/Williford platform includes improving campus parking, supporting efforts to reduce tuition costs and working with OU student organizations to create a more vibrant campus life. 

Sklar is an OUSC legislator and also serves as treasurer for Sigma Pi and Oakland’s Interfraternity Council. Chen is a student in OU’s Honors College and founder of the Anatomical Society of OU. He is also a member of the Pre-Med Society, Neurology Club and Biomedical Science Society.  The Sklar/Chen platform includes providing support to campus athletic programs, Greek life and residence halls. 

In addition to the two presidential/vice presidential choices, there are 29 legislator candidates on the ticket. They are: Alexis Halsell, Arban Stafa, Aws Polina, Blake Williams, Corinna Muntean, Daniel Rochon, Daniella Youhan, Darias Thompson, Enio Sina, Hasan Kaakarli, James Shermetaro, Jibran Ahmed, Joey Namou, Joshua Nuss, Katrina Stencel, Kristen Pierce, Lauren Tibbits, Marcus Karana, Maria Arellano, Maria Willett, Mark Martin, Matt Irish, Michelle Alwardt, Nataile Juronoc, Nicholas McCormick, Patricia Rockentine, Rachel Boye, Wesley Gamble and William Kalas.

The run-up to the election will include two debates. A vice presidential debate will be held at noon on Thursday, March 15, in the Oakland Center Fireside Lounge and a presidential debate is set for Tuesday, March 20, at noon in the Fireside Lounge.

Voting begins at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 26, and wraps up on Wednesday, March 28, at 11:59 p.m. Students can vote online at oakland.edu/voteou using their Net ID and password to log in. 

Election results will be announced at noon on Friday, March 30, in the Oakland Center Pioneer Food Court. For more information about the elections, contact the OUSC at (248) 370-4290, or view the website at oakland.edu/ousc/elections.
