Register now for the 15th annual OU Day at the Capitol

By Eric Reikowski, media relations assistant

Oakland University students, faculty and staff have a unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of state government at the 15th annual OU Day at the Capitol.
This free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 22, and will offer a wide array of activities. Participants will:

  • Attend an opening event with Lansing politicians
  • Attend group meetings with elected officials
  • Attend committee meetings
  • Observe the State Senate and House in session
  • Lunch in the capitol with House and Senate members
  • Attend an alumni gathering at popular Lansing restaurant Troppo from 5:30 – 7 p.m.

Over the years, many students have taken part in this event, including Benjamin Eveslage, Oakland’s Student Body President, who helped organize last year’s OU Day at the Capitol.

“It was a great experience to travel to Lansing and meet my state house representative,” Eveslage said. “I also met Gov. Snyder and had the opportunity to take a photo with him and my friends who attended the OU Day at the Capitol event. I found it surprising that many house representatives and state senators actually took the time to have lunch and talk to OU students about our concerns as their constituents.”

OU Day at the Capitol is sponsored by the Oakland University Student Congress, the Office of Government Relations and the Oakland University Alumni Association. To register, visit oakland.edu/oudayatthecapitol. The deadline is Thursday, March 15.

Charter bus service from the OU campus is available. For additional information, view the flyer, or contact the OU Student Congress at (248) 370-4290.

Register now for a unique opportunity to learn about the inner workings of state government at the 15th annual OU Day at the Capitol, set for Thursday, March 22.
