OUCARES to host 7th annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, March 31
Swimming, arts and crafts, a moonwalk and caricatures are all part of the Oakland University Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) annual Family Fun Day set for Saturday, March 31.
Created for families of individuals with autism spectrum disorders, the event will take place from noon to 4 p.m. in the Campus Recreation Center on the campus of Oakland University.
A sensory room staffed by professionals from Kaufman Children's Center will be available, and families can meet with and learn from representatives from more than 20 service, information resource and research organizations.
"This is an afternoon that gives families of children with autism spectrum disorder an opportunity to meet other families with similar needs, and the children and their siblings have lots of activities to participate in," said Kathy Sweeney, director of OUCARES.
"Our goal is to help improve the quality of life for those affected by autism spectrum disorder, and we are proud to partner with participating vendors who can provide detailed information about available services, as well as other organizations focusing on autism in our community."
OUCARES integrates academic course work, knowledge and research to prepare professionals to be leaders in the autism community. Through numerous professional educational programs, support services for families and inclusion in the community, OUCARES encourages the exchange of ideas relating to autism spectrum disorders and fosters improved quality of life for individuals impacted by autism.
