Macomb-OU INCubator Helps Macomb County Business Secure a $250,000 Loan From the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s Pre-Seed Fund Program

The Coliant Corporation, designers and manufacturers of products that enable customers to use high technology appliances such as cell phones, GPS devices, radar detectors, MP3 players, heated clothing, tire inflators, and battery chargers with their powersport vehicles, secured a $250,000 pre-seed fund with the aid of the Macomb-OU INCubator.

"The Michigan Pre-seed Fund investment in Coliant Corporation would not have been possible without the full support of Julie Gustafson and the Macomb-OU INCubator staff. This timely funding is an invaluable resource to Coliant's continued creation of new jobs for Michigan through our successful global release of rugged electrical connectors and electrical accessories for the motorcycle and ATV industry,” says John Swiatek, President and CEO of Coliant Corporation. “The trickle-down effect for job growth can already be seen as we are placing larger orders with technology-based suppliers in the North American corridor.  Coliant exports these locally designed and manufactured products to 37 countries under the Powerlet brand name."

Coliant designs, produces and sells innovative products for the consumer powersports industry, including motorcycles, ATVs, Personal Watercraft and snowmobiles. Their products include ruggedized, weather-resistant, aftermarket electrical power outlets, plugs, and related wiring, electronic accessory mounting brackets, storage bag electrification kits, and electrically-heated apparel under the Powerlet, Luggage Electrix, and Powerlet-equipped brand names.

The Macomb-OU INCubator provides comprehensive development and support to start up and emerging businesses with a focus on the defense, homeland security, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors. For more information, visit the incubator website at oakland.edu/macombouinc.
