Macomb-OU INCubator Awarded $500,000 Grant For Continued Growth From the Michigan Economic Development Corporation

The Macomb-Oakland University INCubator is pleased to announce the acceptance of a $500,000 grant from the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the state leader in marketing and economic growth.

The Macomb-OU INCubator is a business incubator and accelerator committed to providing comprehensive development and innovative support to start-up and emerging businesses in the areas of defense, homeland security and advanced manufacturing. The incubator is the only SmartZone incubator in the state to target these specific industries.

The Macomb-OU INCubator provides entrepreneurial resources, business solutions, access to student interns and proactive support to businesses, such as financing for growth, business strategy, consultation, access to appropriate rental space, shared business services and equipment and technology support services.

It is located within the Techonology Advancement SmartZone of Sterling Heights, and is a collaboration between Oakland University, the City of Sterling Heights and Macomb County.

The MEDC issued a Request for Proposals in October of 2011 for a portion of the $6 million in awards. Of the 23 that were submitted, 12 Michigan incubators and accelerators received a share. The Macomb-OU INCubator will use the awarded funds to support operations, and  to develop and enhance program offerings to small business clients.

More specifically, this grant will aid funding to incubator administration and operations, including personnel and programming.
