Fireside Growth Series to Feature Talks With Successful Entrepreneurs

To encourage discussion among entrepreneurs and help them gain the inside knowledge from those who have ‘been there’ and ‘done that,’ the Macomb-OU INCubator will launch its Fireside Growth Series at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, March 7. Bruce J. Burton, serial entrepreneur and president of Avidasports, will be the featured speaker.

“There is tremendous value for anyone in business to hear stories from successful entrepreneurs,” said Julie Gustafson, executive director of the Macomb-OU INCubator. “There is always a lesson to be learned, a pitfall to avoid, or a connection to be made.”

Burton’s Avidasports is pioneering the development of athletic telemetry - the ability to deliver real-time feedback to coaches and athletes as they train. Prior to Avidasports, Burton founded Burtek, an engineering and defense contracting company in Macomb County. After creating 500 jobs through Burtek and then selling company in 2008, he founded MilAIR, a defense contracting company.

Admission to the Fireside Growth Series presentation is free and open to the public. Discussion and questions are encouraged as part of the event. Coffee and dessert will be served.

The INCubator is located in the Velocity building at 6633 Eighteen Mile Road in Sterling Heights. Those interested in attending the lecture are asked to register in advance by contacting Joan Carleton at (586) 884-9324 or emailing to macinc@oakland.edu.

The Macomb-OU INCubator provides comprehensive development and support to start up and emerging businesses with a focus on the defense, homeland security, advanced manufacturing and technology sectors. For more information, visit the incubator website at oakland.edu/macombouinc.
