SEHS adviser Lorin Wright named outstanding professional adviser

Lorin Wright, an adviser in Oakland University’s School of Education and Human Services, has received the 2011-2012 Outstanding Professional Advising Award.
“I am honored to be selected for this award,” Wright said. “I believe academic advisers serve as valuable teachers and mentors to our students and this award reaffirms my commitment to help our students earn a quality education and to achieve their future goals.”
Wright joined the School of Education and Human Services after serving as an adviser in Oakland’s School of Business Administration and College of Arts and Sciences. During his nine years at OU, he has served on numerous committees, including the University Committee for Undergraduate Instruction and the Macomb2Oakland Implementation Committee.
He also worked on efforts to create a new online orientation for incoming transfer students and helped redesign the College of Arts and Sciences’ core requirement.
Sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the award recognizes extraordinary mentoring relationships, development of strong leadership skills, contributions to creating new programs and high student satisfaction.
The selection committee for the award includes the dean of student life, senior associate provost, faculty representatives from each of OU’s colleges and schools and the student body president. Committee chair is Donna Malaski, winner of the 2010-2011 advising award.
Wright will receive his award at an April reception.
