Meadow Brook Hall's Holiday Walk to feature games, traditions

As visitors walk through Meadow Brook Hall this holiday season, festoons will drape across fireplaces, ornate trees will twinkle with fairy lights and the organ will call out favorite tunes. This year, to mark the 40th anniversary of the Detroit area’s classic Holiday Walk, the estate will go “unplugged” with the theme "The Games People Played."

From card games to board games, Lincoln Logs to Tinker Toys, visitors will see original games from the Meadow Brook collection. On exhibit for the first time is a rare carved-ivory chess set owned by the Wilson family. Also new this year, visitors can stroll down the decorated path to tour Knole Cottage, weather permitting.

On Monday evenings, guests can take part in a family game night and a unique craft in the Coach House, before following the soft glow of lanterns down the illuminated path to Knole Cottage for evening tours. On weekends, children of all ages can decorate a delectable holiday cookie to take home and enjoy. They can also enter a coloring contest for a chance to win a newly published Meadow Brook Hall coloring book.

The 2011 Holiday Walk includes a variety of special events:
  • Free visit with Santa at Knole Cottage, Dec. 10 and 11
  • Breakfast with Santa, Dec. 11 and 18
