OU journalism seeks assistant professor

The Department of Communication and Journalism at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor of journalism, to begin Fall 2012. We are seeking an outstanding scholar with research and teaching interests in journalism.


This position is open to a number of possibilities as our program grows and we revise our curriculum. Successful candidates will teach and demonstrate a scholarly interest in areas such as, but not limited to: Broadcast journalism; First Amendment law; advertising; public relations; news flow through formal and informal channels such as social media.


Required qualifications include: A Ph.D. in journalism or related field, or a J.D. degree (ABD may be considered with strong evidence of completion no later than August 15, 2012); an ongoing or programmatic research agenda relevant to the journalism program’s academic priorities and the field of inquiry; evidence of commitment to teaching and skills as a teacher. Professional experience in the media industry is considered a plus.

Salary is competitive and commensurate to experience and qualifications. Additional teaching in summer sessions is often available.
