Students, staff and alumni join together for Make a Difference Day

On Saturday, October 22, nearly 400 Oakland University students, staff and alumni joined with the United Way in Southeastern Michigan for a day of community service known nationally as Make a Difference Day (MADD). As a celebration of “neighbors helping neighbors,” MADD is an organization who seeks to make positive changes in the community and to raise awareness of the power of service across the country.

This was OU’s eighth year of participation and first year combining students and alumni together on various service projects filling the needs of the community.

Volunteer projects included beautification work in and around the grounds of Pontiac High School, sorting items for the Salvation Army at Martin Luther King Jr. Church, working in the organic garden, sorting recycled materials for Arts & Scraps and various projects for the Baldwin Center.

The Oakland University Alumni Association helped to recruit area alumni who teamed up with students during this event.  Make A Difference t-shirts were provided by the OUAA to all volunteers.
