Updated information on accident involving OU students
University administrators have been made aware that a fatal traffic accident on I-75 in Detroit involved a number of Oakland students.
At this point, information that has been confirmed and released is limited, but the Michigan State Police have confirmed that two students have died and one is in critical condition. We know that additional details of the incident, including the names of the victims, will only be released pending notification of family members.
This worrisome news is certainly cause for anxiety and concern, and we have requested that the university be provided additional information as soon as it becomes available. We will certainly make that information available to the campus community via this site and other communication vehicles as soon as we are able.
The university is making free counseling services available to faculty, staff and students looking to cope with their grief in the days and weeks ahead. Anyone who needs to talk to a professional counselor on Sunday is advised to call Dr. David Schwartz at (248) 890-4939. Starting Monday, Graham Counseling Center can be reached at (248) 370-3465.
Until we understand the full extent of this tragic incident, we ask that the university community keep the injured and family members of those who have lost their lives in their thoughts and prayers.
