Greetings to everyone as our fall semester gets rolling. The ERL has been hopping, and we’re happy to see our tables filled, our shelves emptying, and our printers and copy machines humming. We have a great student crew this year to help serve you, and are pleased to announce a few additions and changes in response to requests from students.
We now have Scantrons available for purchase at 50 cents each or six for $2.10. Kresge Library no longer sells them, and the only other place you can get them is across campus at the OU Bookstore.
We also have a new laptop circulation program, PALS, which allows certain computers to be checked out beyond our ERL doors. Students noticed that at certain times, the ERL is so busy that there is no place to sit, and a request was made that students be allowed to take a laptop into the foyer or perhaps to a classroom space to work. We heard you – and we have designated a set of 10 “travelling” computers which we are calling PALs. You can read all about the program in the article below.
If you haven’t been in lately, you might want to stop by to browse. This month, we are showcasing our Tradebook Examination Center and the publishers who provide the latest in children's and young adult books. During October, we displayed a selection of “Books about Bullies and Bullying” in support of the SMEA Anti Cyber-Bullying initiative, and “Banned and Challenged Books” in conjunction with the ALA Banned Books Week Celebration, held annually during the last week in September. Notable USBBY Books are on display on the table near the entrance.
Check out our web page to play a fun “Plagiarism Game” and to watch for current events and displays. You can also look for links to web pages and resources which support your area of study on our “Resource Links” page. Become a friend on Facebook to keep up with news and ERL information throughout the year.
Have a great semester, and keep us posted about the ways we can best serve you.
Happy Reading, Barb
