International fellowship sends OU student to study in Nova Scotia

OU student Ian Green has been granted a Killam Fellowships Award to study at Université Sainte-Anne in Nova Scotia.
Ian Green, a fourth-year student at Oakland University, has been granted a Killam Fellowships Award to study at Université Sainte-Anne for the fall semester of the 2011-2012 academic year.

As a Killam Fellow at Université Sainte-Anne in Pointe-de-l'Église, Nova Scotia, Green will be studying international relations and French, and he hopes to pursue graduate studies in international studies in the future.

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Ian Green on his achievements and on being selected as a Killam Fellow,” says Dr. Michael Hawes, executive director of the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America.

“Ian Green recognizes the cultural value of this program as well as its academic uses and is just the kind of Fellow we hope for. We wish him all the best at Université Sainte-Anne and in his studies.”

Green will be attending the French immersion program at Université Sainte-Anne this fall, and is looking forward to improving his language skills by studying at a Francophone university in Canada.

He plans to pursue further cultural and academic exchange following his fellowship and graduation from Oakland this spring. Green is an active and engaged Oakland student, and enjoys hiking, and all types of water sports, including kayaking and swimming.

The Killam Fellowships Program provides exceptional undergraduate students from select universities in Canada and the United States with the opportunity to spend either one semester or a full academic year as an exchange student in the other country.

The program is administered by the Foundation for Educational Exchange between Canada and the United States of America, a joint, bi-national, treaty-based organization created to encourage mutual understanding between Canada and the United States of America through academic and cultural exchange.

The Foundation is also responsible for administering the prestigious Canada-U.S. Fulbright Program which is supported by the Canadian Government, through Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, by the United States Government, through the U.S. Department of State, and by a diverse group of corporate sponsors, charitable trusts, and university partners.

The Killam Fellowships Program is now accepting applications for its 10th anniversary year. This program is generously supported by the American Killam Trusts and is a major initiative in their multifaceted efforts to foster mutual understanding between the citizens of Canada and those of the United States.
