New faculty member Alex Zuo already is publishing biomedical research

Each fall OU welcomes many new faculty members to campus, and in most years that includes several new biomedical researchers. Among the new faculty this fall is Li (Alex) Zuo, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences. You can find the full list at http://www2.oakland.edu/undergrad/newfac2011.cfm, including a short biographical sketch of each. Below is a condensed version of Alex’s bio:
Alex Zuo obtained his PhD from Ohio State University. His research is focused on the molecular mechanism of stress-induced free radical formation in skeletal and cardiac muscle. He uses rodent models and cell culture systems to evaluate the loss of function in cardiac and skeletal muscle. His experiments are aimed at identifying roles of free radicals on diverse disease models such as cardiovascular ischemia/reperfusion injuries, respiratory muscle failure in hypoxia, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease induced muscle dysfunction. He also develops new fluorescent technologies for free radical and calcium detection.
Interestingly, Alex is already productive, with a paper in the September 2011 issue of the Journal of Applied Physiology (Reactive oxygen species formation during tetanic contractions in single isolated Xenopus myofibers, Volume 111, Pages 898-904), which has Oakland University listed as his current institution.
New Assistant Professor Alex Zuo, in the Department of Biological Sciences, publishes about free radicals in muscle.
