Medea by Euripides
a classical Greek play adapted by Karen Sheridan
for the Classical Theatre Study in Greece class (THA 482) of 2011
This summer the Theatre Program from the Department of Music, Theatre and Dance and the Department of Art and Art History combined their efforts and brought two of their classes (THA 482 and SA 396--Directed Study Abroad in Studio Art) to the island of Hydra in Greece for classes with the OU faculty and guest artists on Classical Greek Theatre and Photography.
This Saturday, September 10, their production of Medea will be performed in the Varner Studio Theatre at 2 pm and 8 pm. The performances will be free but will accept donations for the student theatre organization "Actors and Techies" raising money to bring theatre students to the American College Theatre Festival in Illinois in January.
Medea was especially adapted for the group of students who went to Greece this summer. It has a one hour running time and is performed without intermission. The original cast in Greece included students Abigail Alexander, Lauren Knox, Allison Kochanski, Lauren Rich, Madelina Rosario, Teri Sellers and Lauren Wainwright. Faculty Andrea Eis and Kerro Knox were also on stage with Karen Sheridan directing. Student designers Rachel Buechele, Justin Colby and Andrew Wilhelm had work that made the trip to Greece and is back on Saturday night, as well.
The Classical Theatre study was originated by Arthur Beer from University of Detroit Mercy in the 70s. Oakland's partnership began in 2001 and this summer was the first summer it was an Oakland run program. Because all the students were from OU this year, we were able to bring the show back to perform on campus before the main theatre season begins.

The next trip to Greece for the Theatre and Art programs together will be in 2013. Save your pennies!
