SAE team to host demonstration with Dodge Motorsports Aug. 31

Oakland University’s Society of Automotive Engineers are ready to rev their engines at the SAE and Dodge Motorsports Demonstration Day, set from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 31.

The event, set in the P-1 parking lot of OU’s campus, is geared to generate interest and attention for the SAE team, who designs, builds and races a competitive formula race car each year.

Roughly 40 students participate in the group at international competitions and local events throughout the year. They have recently set a school record by placing 11th overall in an International Competition in Fontana, California.

Free and open to the Oakland community and the public, the event will feature a variety of events and demonstrations, as well as prizes, giveaways and food. Prizes include a chance to drive the formula race car and giveaways from Dodge Motorsports gear.

The SAE team will demonstrate their formula car’s capabilities in an acceleration event and autocross race, while the Dodge Motorsports team plans to race their SRT lineup in a drifting event. Participants will also have the chance to go on a thrill ride in a SRT car.
