First-year students are invited to celebrate the start of their Oakland University careers by attending Jump Start, an annual event hosted by the Center for Student Activities and Leadership Development.
As an event leading up to Welcome Week, the experience is designed to help incoming freshmen make a successful transition to college.
During the event, newly-minted Golden Grizzlies will learn about campus resources and services in a supportive atmosphere. Highlights will include a team-building exercise, alumni presentation, faculty and staff panel, free lunch and give-a-ways. Jump Start participants will also meet current students who will serve as mentors throughout their OU careers.
The event will take place on Wednesday, Aug. 31, with check-in at 9 a.m. and activities set from 9:30 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. The first 200 students will receive an autographed copy of "Take the Ride of Your Life," a book by leadership consultant Joyce Weiss. The OU alumna and author will be on hand to offer insights on issues such as personal development, accountability and conflict resolution.
