On Friday, Sept. 9, the Student Program Board of Oakland University will present "Grizzly Palooza," a night of hip hop featuring prominent artists Big Sean, Wale, G-Eazy and Big K.R.I.T.
Set at the Meadow Brook Music Festival on the campus of Oakland University, the event will take place from 7-11 p.m. Detroit hip hop artist Dusty McFly will appear as the opening act.
After rapping for the multi-platinum superstar Kanye West, Detroit-based MC Big Sean signed a recording contract with Island Def Jam through G.O.O.D. Music. He is now gearing up to release his debut album, which not only includes features some of today's most highly respected artists, but also gives listeners an in-depth look into the life of an MC who is committed to his craft.
Hailing from Meridian, Mississippi, Big K.R.I.T. grew up listening to early rhythm and blues and revered soul artists like Curtis Mayfield, Willie Hutch and Bobby Womack. With rap influences including 8Ball & MJG, UGK, Scarface and OutKast. K.R.I.T. looks to resurrect the rich heritage of Southern hip-hop in the 1990’s.
G-Eazy's west coast style has become a staple in the New Orleans music scene by bringing wild themed parties to hip-hop shows. Over the last two years, he has toured with Lil Wayne and Drake, and has done shows with Lupe Fiasco, Curren$y, Girl Talk, Jay Electronica, Chiddy Bang, Juvenile and many others.
Wale is an American rapper who recently inked a deal with Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group. Widely known for his critically acclaimed mix tapes, he fuses DC's homegrown go-go genre with a streetwise northern hip-hop sensibility and his lyrical dexterity.
