OUCARES and Joey Travolta team up for 6th annual Short Film Camp

Oakland University's Center for Autism Research, Education and Support (OUCARES) will partner with Hollywood actor, director and writer Joey Travolta to run a two-week Short Film Camp for children with autism spectrum disorders.

Set for Aug. 15-26, the film camp gives individuals 10-18 years of age and their siblings or peer buddies within the same age group an opportunity to write, act, direct and edit a film of their own. The unique program offers an inclusive setting that supports an immersion in the arts.

This year, 16-year-old animator Dani Bowman, who herself has an autism spectrum disorder, will join the summer camp program to teach and work with fellow campers to create a short, animated film.

On Saturday, Oct. 15, OUCARES will host a Red Carpet Film Premiere night at the Oakland Center on Oakland University's campus. The event, which is open to the public, will showcase the short film produced by the film camp participants and celebrate their accomplishments. Tickets to the event will go on sale on Tuesday, Aug. 23. Information will be available on the OUCARES website listed below.

OUCARES is seeking volunteers ages 18 years and older to assist camp participants in the creative process. Volunteers are welcome to help for as little as a day or throughout the two-week camp.
