Career Expedition offers personal touch to selecting a major
By Stephanie Held, media relations intern
A free workshop at Oakland University offers students a unique opportunity to explore majors and careers while participating in high-energy activities.
Career Expedition takes a highly personal look at selecting a major and future career. At the workshop, students will take personality and interest assessments, utilize online career resources, set educational and career goals, and create an action plan to help achieve individual goals.
During the summer semester, the Career Expedition workshop is offered as a one-day event from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the next event set for Wednesday, Aug. 10.
The summer one-day option has been offered for three summers now, while the Career Expedition series is set to begin its fifth fall semester.
Career Expedition is offered as a series of four weekly sessions for students who participate during the fall and winter semesters.
Lindsay Zeig, interim director for the Advising Resource Center, said students consistently offer positive feedback regarding their experience with Career Expedition.
“Students enjoy the activities and the opportunity to meet new people, who are also unsure of their career direction,” she said.
After participating, many students often gain confidence and are better able to understand how their individual personality, interests and values all relate to career or major choices, according to Zeig.
Space is limited and registration is required. For more information or to register for Career Expedition, view the website at oakland.edu/arcworkshops or contact Zeig at lmolive2@oakland.edu, or 248-370-3227.
The Career Expedition workshop provides students with personal support and assistance as they decide upon a major. The next event is set for Aug. 10.
