Guest speakers Debra Setman and Janie Farner headed the presentation, discussing topics of Lean culture, the history of Lean and a look at some basic tools of Lean.
Participants engaged in discussions of Lean in their workplaces. They were given the opportunity to both praise and critique current practices and policies in their own institutions, strategizing on where and how to implement or further implement Lean thinking. The session ended with a hands-on simulation to reinforce the principles taught.
The session received a great reception – all the participants indicated that the training was helpful and the speakers were excellent. Participants also supported the continuation of this program and others like it.
“I really enjoyed the Lean 101 program,” said Luke Cloutier, marketing intern at the INCubator and new to the world of Lean. “It gave me great ideas on the concepts of Lean, and how they can be applied to the workplace.”
The next session, Value Stream Mapping, will take place Monday, June 11. Two leaders in Lean, Lester Sutherland and Howard Weston, will present the workshop at the INCubator. This session will give an overview of what value stream mapping is, focusing on when and how to employ it, with a hands-on application of the tool.
The Summer Lean Series will wrap up on August 2 with How to Diversify Using Lean with Janie Farner and Ravi Lote, PMC consultants. Farner and Lote will present on how to use Lean both to help companies diversify and as an assessment tool.
