OU students earn MCC awards for volunteer contributions
A number of community-minded students from Oakland University have been recognized by the Michigan Campus Compact for their commitment to service.
In all, 19 students have received an award. One student, Emily Tissot, was one of only six students statewide to be awarded the Outstanding Community Impact award.
Oakland is one of 21 member campuses in the Michigan Campus Compact (MCC) for the 2010-11 school year. Organizers anticipate developing and building upon partnerships with community organizations in the Pontiac, Auburn Hills and Rochester area, as interest in the program grows.
Now in the second year of the program, administrators have seen a dramatic increase in the number of student participants.
Long term goals of the program are to create a foundation for sustainable service for OU students and to encourage them to be more active in their community, according to Tiffany Sims, Michigan Campus Compact AmeriCorps representative at OU.
