Marketing student recognized with Commuter Involvement Award

The marketing major from Fraser regularly juggles her responsibilities as a student with student organizations, and this year she added two part-time jobs to the mix.

“I think it’s really important not to just go to class and go home,” says Moore, who also was active in extracurricular activities in high school. “I enjoy developing new relations and learning new things.”

Moore, a senior, was among six OU students recognized with the Commuter Involvement Award this spring for their devotion to campus life.

The award honors full-time commuter students who participate in campus activities and organizations while maintaining at least a 2.75 grade point average.

Moore and the other recipients accepted their awards, which included a $500 award to be used in Fall 2011, during the CSA Student Activities and Leadership Awards Ceremony and Reception April 18.

“I'm really honored. I know a lot of students applied for this award, and a lot deserve it, too,” she says.

Moore’s campus involvement includes membership in honor societies Alpha Lambda Delta and Golden Key. She is an executive board member of the SBA's American Marketing Association, and is running for the organization’s president’s position.

She also is an Honor College student, plays a number of intramural sports and makes time to attend school-sponsored events.

Her jobs this year include a part-time retail position and a marketing internship.

Moore appreciates Oakland’s decision to present these awards and to recognize the impact student organizations have on their members.

“I think it’s very important that the university does this,” she says.

It never occurred to SBA student Stephanie Moore to limit her OU experience to academics.
