Spring commencement ceremonies set for Saturday, April 30

Oakland University will honor its April and June graduates at three commencement ceremonies on Saturday, April 30, at Baldwin Pavilion on the grounds of the Meadow Brook Music Festival.

The schedule is as follows:

9 a.m. – College of Arts and Sciences, Bachelor of Integrative Studies
1 p.m. – All masters and doctoral graduates
5 p.m. – School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services, School of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Health Sciences and School of Nursing

Speakers for the 9 a.m. ceremony will be OU student Jenny L. McCardell and OU alumnus Peter Halabu, CAS ’07. A recent graduate of Harvard Law School, Halabu is an attorney at Halabu Law Group, P.C.

The speaker for the 1 p.m. ceremony will be Napoleon Harrington, CAS ’02, ’04, founder and CEO of Ambassador Counseling & Resource Group.

Joseph H. Guettler M.D., director of Beaumont Sports Medicine Education and Research and head team physician for Oakland’s Athletics department, will speak at the 5 p.m. ceremony. He will be joined by OU alumna Megan Hepke, SEHS ’08, a teacher in the prestigious Cranbrook Schools, located in Bloomfield Hills.

Additionally, an honorary degree will be awarded to Margaret Allessee, philanthropist and longtime supporter, volunteer and friend of both Oakland and Detroit’s cultural community.

The national anthem will be performed by Vocal Performance major Margaret Wave Burr at 9 a.m., Vocal Pedagogy major Jeremy Ryan Mossman at 1 p.m. and Allie McCaw, Musical Theatre major, at 5 p.m.

Web users can view the live commencement stream online. The camera will be active only during commencement exercises.

Those planning to attend graduation should review the campus map and parking information. Parking is free and open to the public, except where indicated.

In case of inclement weather, information will be available by calling (248) 370-2000, by tuning in to WWJ or WJR radio stations, or Fox2, WDIV-TV or WXYZ-TV.
Each ceremony will be interpreted in sign language. Guests with other special needs should call the Office of the Provost at (248) 370-2190.
