Positions available in OU's 2011 Summer Student Campus Corps

By Katie Land, news editor

For the third year running, Oakland University’s Summer Student Campus Corps (SSCC) program is set to welcome a fresh class of students to its fold.

Aiming to provide meaningful work experience, the innovative program places undergraduate students in temporary, on-campus jobs designed to build professional skills and work experience.

This summer, more than 70 students will benefit from the internship-style positions.

“The program has been a success the past two summers and we are looking forward to another successful summer of employing students,” said Cindy Hermsen, director of Financial Aid. “Students are the real beneficiary of the program. It gives them the opportunity to obtain work experience in their field and be more marketable as they advance into a career.”

The corps will supply paid positions from Monday, April 25, through Sunday, August 28. Working up to 40 hours a week, students can earn up to $10 an hour, or a maximum of $7,200, over 18 weeks.

Assignments include a wide variety of projects, in the academic, administrative and auxiliary realms. Positions are available in campus departments such as biology, the library, the School of Nursing, information technology, OU’s business incubator, accounting, financial aid, recreation and administrative offices.

These projects are outside the scope of routine positions traditionally offered by the hiring department.

The program has become increasingly popular on campus and has consistently received a very positive response from administrators, professors and student participants, according to Hermsen.

Students can apply for corps positions through OUCareer Link at OUCareerLink.com. All positions will be listed until they are filled. For more information about the Summer Student Campus Corps, contact the Financial Aid Office at (248) 370-2550 or finaid@oakland.edu.
