President & CEO, MichBio 7:15 p.m.Keynote Address by Dr. Jeff DeGraff"How to Make Innovation Happen in Michigan:  The Long and Short View" Well it's official. Michigan is the only state in the union that lost population according to the 2010 US Census. Our towering automotive businesses have faltered. The Great Recession ate all the available capital. They are even using our cities as a gritty backdrop for cop shows and apocalyptic movies. You get the picture. Oh sure, there is hope - A new sheriff, a new commitment, a new deal. But it's nothing new to you. You've heard it all before. You know that cavalry isn't coming. It's up to you to move forward to the undiscovered country. In this market, innovation isn't your best friend... it's your only friend.

Michigan Ross School of Business Professor Jeff DeGraff will discuss how top businesses really make innovation happen and how you can do the same. He will address how these winning growth strategies and capabilities relate to the challenges and opportunities that we face as a State and a sector. He will challenge your most basic assumptions of how innovation produces value and suggest an array of alternative approaches.
