OU Undergraduate Tenira Townsend wins Prestigious Fellowship

Oakland University undergraduate biochemistry major Tenira Townsend was awarded a prestigious Chancellor's Graduate Fellowship from Washington University in St. Louis to pursue a PhD in biochemistry. She will receive a full tuition scholarship plus living expenses for five years. In 2009, Tenira participated in the Eye Research Institute's Summer Undergraduate Program in Eye Research (SUPER), working with CBR member Frank Giblin to study the role of thioredoxin reductase-1 in the lens epithelium. She also received a Provost's Undergraduate Student Research Award and a Grant-in-Aid from Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society.
