Grizzlies fans’ roar wins second place in Nike contest
Oakland University has made itself heard, to the tune of second place nationally in the Nike Campus Roar campaign.
Late last year, Nike kicked off a contest among universities across the United States to create the best “roar” via Facebook. Nike urged college basketball fans to “Write your roar of support to carry your team to the title. Your school. Your squad. Your words.”
With a score of 293 “likes” on Facebook, OU’s roar of “OU, Oh Yeah” scored second to the University of Northern Iowa and handily topped third-place Missouri State.
OU Athletics helped lead the Grizzlies’ roar campaign through Facebook, game-day messages and community e-blasts, said Kate Boylan, OU Athletics coordinator of promotions, ticketing and marketing.
For its second-place win, Oakland received dozens of Nike shirts emblazoned with OU’s roar. The shirts were distributed on Sunday, March 13, at the Selection Sunday Viewing Party at the O’rena.
