Detroit history takes center stage at Phi Alpha Theta conference
Oakland University’s History Honor Society chapter will host the 2011 Phi Alpha Theta Michigan Regional Conference from 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, in the Oakland Center.
Fifty-eight students from 16 colleges and universities throughout the United States and Canada will present original historical research papers before a panel of professional historians.
A number of presentations will focus on Detroit and Michigan history. The conference includes 18 OU students, who will provide an in-depth look into diverse topics such as organized labor, environmental activism, African-American newspapers and Detroit streetcars.
Additionally, the event will be keynoted by distinguished OU almuna Dr. Jan Bulman, an associate professor of history at Auburn University in Montgomery, Alabama.
